"Relying on medication instead of prayer shows I'm trusting science more than God."
How it sounds in your head: I feel guilty every morning when I take my pills. Shouldn't I be going to God first? It feels like I'm putting my faith in chemicals instead of the Creator. Am I treating medicine as my savior instead of Jesus?
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning."
-- James 1:17Religious false dichotomy that makes God and science competing options, denying that all truth is God's truth.
She's been taught to view faith and medicine as opposite ends of a spectrum - the more you use one, the less you trust the other. Her prescription feels like a betrayal of spiritual dependence.
Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan who bandaged wounds and poured on oil and wine (the medical treatment of that era). Jesus held this up as the model of loving your neighbor - using available medicine, not just praying.
I REFUSE the lie that medicine competes with faith in God. IT IS WRITTEN that every good gift comes from above - including medical science. My medication is God's provision through human discovery, and I receive it with thanksgiving. The Good Samaritan used oil and wine as medicine, and Jesus praised him. IT IS WRITTEN that faith without works is dead - sometimes the 'work' is taking the medicine God provided. I am not trusting pills over God; I'm trusting God's goodness expressed through pills. I stand in the BARAK blessing where God commands blessing on my storehouses - including my medicine cabinet.
Your Father is running toward you saying 'I gave you the doctors, the research, the pharmacy - why are you rejecting my gifts as if they're not from Me?' He's delighted when you use EVERY resource He provided, not keeping score of which ones are 'spiritual enough.'
