"My suffering draws me closer to God—without it I would forget Him."
How it sounds in your head: When I'm healthy I get busy and forget to pray. This pain keeps me on my knees, dependent. Maybe God allows it because it's the only way to keep my attention. I'm more spiritual when I'm suffering.
"Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?"
-- Romans 2:4Religious lie that God uses pain as relationship manipulation and that intimacy requires suffering rather than being freely given through the Spirit.
Crisis does drive people to prayer and suffering does create desperation that feels like closeness. This creates false correlation between pain and God's presence, confusing desperation with devotion.
After all Job's suffering, God didn't say 'stay sick, it's keeping you humble.' Instead, the Lord RESTORED Job's losses and gave him TWICE as much as before—14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 oxen, 1,000 donkeys, and blessed his latter days MORE than his beginning.
I REFUSE the lie that God needs pain to keep my attention. IT IS WRITTEN that the GOODNESS of God leads to repentance—not suffering, but goodness. The Holy Spirit is my teacher and comforter, drawing me with love, not driving me with disease. IT IS WRITTEN that I have been blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ. Job's end was DOUBLE what he started with—God's goal was RESTORATION, not perpetual suffering. I am under the BARAK blessing that promises I am blessed coming in and going out, in the city and in the field. Intimacy with my Father flows from His goodness, not my pain. I receive health and His manifest presence RIGHT NOW.
Your Father doesn't withhold health to manipulate relationship—He's already given you the Holy Spirit as the guarantee of constant intimacy. He's running toward you with abundant life, longing to flood you with goodness so magnetic you'll never want to leave His side, not because you're hurting but because you're whole.
