"If I had enough faith like the heroes in the Bible, I would already be healed."
How it sounds in your head: You've read about people being healed instantly. You've heard the testimonies. If your faith was stronger, bigger, purer, you'd be healed by now. The problem isn't God—it's your weak, wavering, insufficient faith. You're the reason you're still sick.
"And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, 'If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.' But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, 'Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.' And the woman was made well from that hour."
-- Matthew 9:20-22Performance-based healing theology that makes faith a WORK and healing a reward for faith quality.
Every healing story highlights faith, making your continued sickness feel like evidence of faith failure. Well-meaning people ask 'do you REALLY believe?' which confirms the suspicion that you're the problem.
His son had been tormented since childhood. When Jesus said 'if you can believe, all things are possible,' the father cried out with TEARS, 'Lord, I believe; help my UNbelief!' Jesus didn't say 'sorry, insufficient faith'—He IMMEDIATELY cast out the demon and healed the boy. Imperfect faith was enough.
I REFUSE the lie that healing depends on my faith quality. IT IS WRITTEN that the woman with the issue of blood had imperfect theology but was healed instantly. The father cried 'help my unbelief' and his son was delivered IMMEDIATELY. Faith is not a WORK I perform to earn healing—it's the hand that receives what GRACE freely gives. IT IS WRITTEN that it's by GRACE through faith, and even that faith is NOT of myself, it's the GIFT of God. Jesus is the author AND finisher of faith. I am Abraham's seed, blessed by PROMISE not performance. My healing rests on HIS faithfulness, not my faith measurement. By His stripes I WAS healed—past tense, already accomplished. I receive what He already did.
The Father isn't measuring your faith on a scale—He's looking at the finished work of Jesus and declaring 'PAID IN FULL.' The woman who touched His garment had twelve years of failure behind her; the father had doubts mixed with his belief. Jesus healed them BOTH because grace doesn't wait for perfect faith—it responds to desperate reaching.
