"My prayers won't matter until they hit rock bottom and want help."
How it sounds in your head: You've watched them make choice after choice, and nothing changes their trajectory. People say, 'They have to hit rock bottom before they'll turn around.' The enemy agrees: 'Your prayers are useless until they're desperate enough. God can't work until they're broken enough. Just wait and watch them fall further.'
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Source: World's wisdom (recovery culture) that positions human desperation, not divine grace, as the prerequisite for breakthrough.
Every intervention has failed, every consequence has been ignored, and they seem more hardened than ever. The only stories you hear of people changing are after they 'hit bottom,' so you're helplessly watching them fall, waiting for the crash.
Saul was not at rock bottom—he was at the HEIGHT of his rage, 'breathing threats and murder,' on his way to arrest more Christians. He wasn't broken or desperate; he was CONFIDENT and zealous in the wrong direction. Jesus knocked him off his horse anyway, confronted him in blazing light, and transformed him INSTANTLY into Paul the apostle.
I REFUSE the lie that my child must hit rock bottom before God moves. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 5:8 that while we were STILL SINNERS—not after we hit bottom—Christ died for us. Saul wasn't broken or desperate; he was MURDEROUS and confident, and Jesus knocked him off his horse anyway and transformed him instantly. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 2:4 that it is the GOODNESS of God that leads to repentance, not the severity of consequences. My prayers release His goodness NOW, surrounding my child with grace in the middle of their rebellion. The BARAK blessing means my seed is covered—the covenant protected Jacob when he was DECEIVING, not after he repented. God is moving in my child's life RIGHT NOW, in the pigpen, not waiting for them to stand up and come home first.
The Father is not waiting for your child to hit bottom, get desperate, or come to their senses before He moves—He's already surrounding them with grace, orchestrating encounters, whispering through circumstances, moving heaven and earth WHILE they're still running. He specializes in apprehending people mid-rebellion, not after they've cleaned up.
