"If I had been a better spiritual leader, my children wouldn't have walked away."
How it sounds in your head: Other men led family devotions every night. Other fathers were at every game, every recital. I was building a career, distracted, spiritually lazy. Now they're atheists, and it's because I didn't lead.
"I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase."
-- 1 Corinthians 3:6-7Religion: Promotes the 'spiritual covering' doctrine where father's leadership determines family's spiritual outcome, making him messiah.
You can name specific families where strong father leadership produced godly children. You can trace your kids' departure to your absence or weakness.
Samuel was a PROPHET who heard God's voice as a child, judged Israel faithfully, yet his own sons 'did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after dishonest gain.' The most spiritual leader in the nation had rebellious sons—leadership doesn't guarantee outcomes.
I REFUSE the lie that better leadership would have saved them. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives the increase—not my parenting skills, not my consistency, GOD. Samuel was a PROPHET and his sons rebelled; David was a man after God's heart and Absalom turned traitor. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation in Christ—not for imperfect leadership, not for missed devotions. The BARAK over Abraham operated despite his LIES, Jacob's DECEPTIONS, Judah's ADULTERY—covenant is stronger than character. I planted seeds; God grows the harvest on HIS timeline.
The Father isn't comparing you to other dads or keeping a leadership scorecard—He's pursuing your children based on HIS faithfulness, not your performance. Your imperfect leadership doesn't disqualify His perfect plan.
