"My parents' fighting is my fault and I could stop it if I was better"
How it sounds in your head: They fight about me—my grades, my behavior, money for my stuff. If I was just good enough, quiet enough, didn't need anything, maybe they'd stop. I feel like I'm tearing them apart.
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
-- Romans 5:1Trauma - taking responsibility for adults' conflict, believing perfect behavior brings peace
He's heard his name in their arguments. When he behaves well, sometimes they fight less. It feels like he has control if he just tries harder.
Joseph's brothers HATED him because their father favored him—the family conflict was SO bad they sold him into slavery. Yet NONE of it was Joseph's fault, and God INSTANTLY turned every betrayal into promotion—prison to palace in ONE DAY when Pharaoh called.
I REFUSE the lie that I cause my parents' fighting! IT IS WRITTEN that I have PEACE with God through Jesus, not through perfect behavior! Their conflict is NOT my responsibility—I am a child, not a marriage counselor. IT IS WRITTEN that I am loved, free, and not responsible for adult brokenness. The BARAK blessing is mine—I am blessed coming in and going out, protected, favored. I walk in peace because JESUS is my peace!
God doesn't see you as the problem in their marriage—He sees you as His beloved son caught in someone else's storm. He's not waiting for you to fix it; He's already wrapping peace around you as a GIFT.
