"I have to forgive my abusive parents before I can receive God's peace or healing."
How it sounds in your head: The preacher said if I don't forgive, God won't forgive me. I've tried for 80 years to forgive what they did and I can't. I'm stuck. God must be withholding His blessing until I can muster up enough grace for them. I'm running out of time.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religion twisting Jesus' pre-cross teaching into a performance requirement, making your healing contingent on your ability to manufacture emotions.
Matthew 6:15 seems clear and every well-meaning Christian has quoted it at you. You've white-knuckled your way through 'I forgive them' prayers that felt hollow and nothing changed, confirming you must not be doing it right.
A criminal who had zero time to 'work on forgiveness,' process his childhood trauma, or prove his sanctification. Jesus gave him Paradise in ONE SENTENCE based on nothing but belief—instant access to God with zero spiritual performance.
I REFUSE the lie that my healing is on hold until I perfectly forgive my abusers. IT IS WRITTEN that God has forgiven me ALL trespasses and wiped out every requirement that stood against me. I am not under law but under GRACE. My forgiveness flows FROM being forgiven, not TO EARN being forgiven. IT IS WRITTEN there is no condemnation for those in Christ. The thief on the cross had no time to 'work through' anything and received Paradise instantly. The BARAK blessing flows to me by COVENANT, not by my emotional achievement. I receive God's peace and healing RIGHT NOW, before I feel anything toward my parents.
The Father threw a party for the prodigal before any apology to the older brother, before any restitution to those he'd wronged with the inheritance money. Your access to the Father has nothing to do with your ability to muster up feelings—He's already running toward you.
