"If my parents knew who I really am, they'd reject me even more"
How it sounds in your head: You've hidden parts of yourself your whole life—your doubts, your failures, your secret struggles. Even now at 85, you maintain the facade because deep down, you believe if they knew the REAL you (or knew when they were alive), the little acceptance you got would evaporate. The real you is too much, too broken, too shameful to be loved.
"And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account."
-- Hebrews 4:13Enemy: Makes you hide from human and divine love, turning intimacy into a performance where your true self is the disqualifying secret
They criticized the parts of you they DID see. Logic says the hidden parts would be even more condemned. You've spent 85 years carefully managing what people see, convinced that exposure equals rejection. The mask feels safer than vulnerability.
David committed ADULTERY with Bathsheba, MURDERED her husband Uriah, LIED to cover it up—then wrote Psalm 51 exposing his own sin publicly. God called him 'a man after My own heart' AFTER this, not before. God saw the adultery, the murder, the cover-up—and still declared David His beloved. Exposure didn't disqualify; it positioned him for deeper intimacy.
I REFUSE the lie that the real me is too shameful to be loved. IT IS WRITTEN: All things are NAKED and OPEN to God—He sees everything, every hidden part, every secret struggle—and He calls me BELOVED. I am FULLY KNOWN and FULLY LOVED. David was exposed as an adulterer and murderer and God still called him 'a man after My own heart.' IT IS WRITTEN: Nothing can separate me from the love of God. The BARAK blessing doesn't require a mask—it covers the REAL me, hidden parts and all. At 85, I am SEEN and SAFE, known and not rejected.
Your Father doesn't love the version of you that you present—He loves the REAL you that you've been hiding. He's not waiting for you to clean up to love you more. He's inviting you to drop the mask and discover that the you that you've been hiding is the you He's been celebrating all along.
