"I need to forgive them before I can heal, but I can't, so I'm stuck."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone says you have to forgive to move forward. Pastors, counselors, well-meaning adults. But when you try to force it, it feels like a lie. You're not there yet. Maybe you never will be. So you're trapped—can't heal without forgiving, can't forgive without healing. Paralyzed.
"Then Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.' And they divided His garments and cast lots."
-- Luke 23:34Religious law disguised as grace, making forgiveness a WORK she must perform to earn healing instead of a fruit that comes from receiving healing.
She's been told repeatedly that forgiveness is required for her breakthrough. She's tried to force it and felt like a hypocrite. The hurt is still too raw, and she believes God won't move until she does this thing she can't do yet.
Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery, lied to their father, destroyed 13 years of his life. Joseph didn't forgive them immediately—he tested them, processed, waited. When forgiveness came, it came as FRUIT of seeing God's redemption, not as a WORK required before God could move in his life.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm stuck until I can force forgiveness. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus already forgave them on the cross—my healing doesn't depend on MY performance. I am a BRANCH connected to the VINE. IT IS WRITTEN that apart from Him I can do NOTHING, but IN HIM, fruit comes naturally, including forgiveness. God is healing me RIGHT NOW, not after I check religious boxes. Forgiveness is not a WORK I perform to earn breakthrough—it's FRUIT that grows as I receive His love. I am free to heal even while I'm processing the hurt.
Your Father isn't withholding healing until you can muster up forgiveness. He's healing you NOW, holding you close, letting you process at your pace. Forgiveness will come as FRUIT when you're ready—not as a toll you pay for His love. He's already moving. You're not stuck.
