"My childhood shaped me and I'm too old to be re-formed now."
How it sounds in your head: All the psychology books say your personality is set by age seven. I'm in my eighties—whatever damage was done is permanent. This is just who I am and it's too late to change.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17World system lie elevating childhood environment above Holy Spirit's present power to transform.
Eighty years of patterns, reactions, and coping mechanisms feel concrete and unchangeable. The world's wisdom says early years determine everything, and she's lived long enough to believe it.
Spent years as a murderous persecutor of Christians, entire identity built on being a Pharisee, deeply entrenched patterns of hatred and violence. One encounter with Jesus and IMMEDIATELY he's preaching Christ in the synagogues. Instant transformation, no 'process' to work through his past.
I REFUSE the lie that my childhood has final authority over who I am. IT IS WRITTEN that in Christ I am a NEW CREATION—present tense, ongoing transformation. Old things are PASSING AWAY today, not just decades ago. IT IS WRITTEN that I am being transformed from glory to glory by the Spirit. Age doesn't limit God's power to remake, restore, and renew. I declare NEWNESS over my eighties.
The Father doesn't see an old woman stuck in childhood patterns—He sees a daughter being transformed glory to glory RIGHT NOW. Every morning is new mercies. Your best identity isn't in your past; it's in His present work. He's still creating beauty in you today.
