"My illness is punishment for past sins; I deserve to suffer for what I've done."
How it sounds in your head: You know what you did—the adultery, the porn, the lies, the selfishness. When sickness came, it felt like divine payback, cosmic justice finally catching up. You can trace a line from sin to suffering, and it feels deserved.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5Source: Religious karma theology that denies the finished work of the cross, making current suffering payment for past sin.
You can connect the dots—marriage betrayal, then heart disease; years of anger, then stroke. Cause and effect feel obvious, and suffering as consequence feels like justice.
Dragged from the bed of adultery, guilty beyond question, surrounded by stones and accusers. Jesus said, 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more'—ZERO punishment, INSTANT forgiveness, full restoration without payment.
I REFUSE the lie that my sickness is punishment for past sin. IT IS WRITTEN that the chastisement for my peace was upon JESUS—He took the punishment so I go FREE. Every sin—past, present, future—was nailed to the cross. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ. If Jesus bore my sin, I don't bear sickness as payment. The woman caught in adultery received ZERO condemnation; I receive the same grace. I am forgiven, cleansed, and HEALED by the blood.
The Father doesn't look at your past and say, 'Now you pay'—He looks at the cross and says, 'PAID IN FULL.' While you're calculating what you deserve, He's running toward you with healing, calling you BELOVED, not debtor.
