"My fluctuating belief is why God hasn't given me peace about dying"
How it sounds in your head: Some days I'm confident about heaven. Other days I'm terrified it's all a story and there's nothing on the other side. If I really believed, I'd have constant peace. My on-again, off-again faith proves I'm not truly saved.
"being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ"
-- Philippians 1:6Religion equates salvation with emotional consistency, making fluctuating feelings evidence of false conversion instead of normal human experience.
The peace comes and goes with your feelings, and the terror feels more real than the confidence some days. You think saved people have unwavering certainty.
Jesus told Peter 'Satan has asked to sift you as wheat, but I have PRAYED for you that your faith should not fail' - Peter's emotions and courage failed SPECTACULARLY (denied Jesus three times), but Jesus' prayer held him secure anyway.
I REFUSE the lie that fluctuating emotions prove false salvation. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 1:6 that HE will complete the work He began - my security rests on His commitment, not my consistent feelings. Jesus prayed for Peter's faith when it was about to collapse entirely - He's praying for mine now. IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:28 that NOTHING can snatch me from His hand - not my terror, not my doubts, not my emotional chaos. I am the BRANCH held by the VINE; the connection doesn't depend on my feelings about it. The BARAK blessing held wavering Jacob through decades of fear and scheming - Christ's blood holds me through emotional storms.
Your Father sees your peace come and go and doesn't revoke salvation with each wave of fear. He's the Father who prayed for Peter BEFORE the denial even happened - He's already interceding for you in this storm, not waiting to see if you pass the emotion test.
