"My energy is gone because I'm carrying everyone else's burdens like I'm supposed to."
How it sounds in your head: You're the one everyone calls—adult kids with crises, aging parents needing help, grandkids needing babysitting, friends needing counsel. You feel drained because you're doing what women do: carrying everyone. You're exhausted but it feels righteous.
"For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
-- Matthew 11:30Religious misapplication of 'bearing burdens' mixed with female cultural expectation to be everyone's emotional support system at expense of self.
Galatians 6:2 says 'bear one another's burdens,' and you've been praised your whole life for being the strong one everyone leans on. Saying no feels selfish, and your fatigue seems like the noble cost of Christlike service.
Martha was DISTRACTED with much serving, worried and troubled about many things, exhausted in service. Jesus didn't praise her martyrdom—He gently corrected: 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part.' Sitting at His feet trumps exhausting service.
I REFUSE the lie that godly service means exhausting myself carrying everyone's burdens. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus' yoke is EASY and His burden is LIGHT—if I'm crushed, I'm carrying what He didn't assign. I am not the Savior; I am a branch abiding in the Vine, and fruit flows FROM Him, not from my striving. IT IS WRITTEN to cast ALL my anxiety on Him because He cares for me—not carry everyone else's. The Abrahamic blessing includes REST, and boundaries are not selfish but necessary. I bear burdens in the POWER of the Spirit, not the depletion of my own strength. Jesus invites the WEARY to come to HIM for rest—including me.
The Father isn't asking you to be everyone's savior while you collapse—He's inviting you to sit at His feet like Mary while He carries what's too heavy for you. While you were still distracted with much serving, He was running toward you with the easy yoke, celebrating that His rest is for you too, not just everyone you serve.
