"My emotions are too big and make everyone uncomfortable. I need to feel less."
How it sounds in your head: When I cry, guys say 'don't be a girl' or 'man up.' When I get angry, I'm told I'm overreacting. When I'm excited, I'm told to chill. Every emotion feels like the wrong size for the room I'm in. Maybe I just need to feel nothing.
"Jesus wept."
-- John 11:35Cultural curse teaching boys that emotions are weakness and only girls feel deeply.
Every time you've shown real emotion, someone made you feel stupid for it. You've learned to lock everything down because expression leads to embarrassment. You're convinced feeling less is the same as being stronger.
David—the warrior who killed giants and lions—wrote that he flooded his bed with tears all night long. God called him a man after His own heart BECAUSE he felt everything deeply, not in spite of it.
I REFUSE the lie that my emotions are too big. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus wept—the King of Kings cried publicly and wasn't ashamed. If the Lion of Judah can weep, so can I. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in the city and in the field—that includes blessed when I FEEL deeply. My emotions aren't weakness; they're connection to a God who feels everything. The world says 'man up'—but God says 'you're already MY son, now feel FULLY ALIVE.' I don't need to shrink my heart to fit in a room that's too small for who God made me.
The Father doesn't tell you to feel less—He's weeping WITH you, raging WITH you, celebrating WITH you. Every emotion you feel, He feels BIGGER, and He's not ashamed of a single one.
