"People can only handle me in small doses. I have to ration myself or I'll wear everyone out and be left alone."
How it sounds in your head: You've learned the pattern: people like you at first, then they pull back. Your energy, your needs, your presence—it's draining. So you've become strategic, showing up just enough to not be abandoned but never your whole self.
"You shall no longer be termed Forsaken, Nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; But you shall be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; For the LORD delights in you, And your land shall be married."
-- Isaiah 62:4Rejection trauma that taught self-protection through hiding, plus world system that measures worth by how little inconvenience you cause others.
She's watched relationships change over time—the enthusiasm fades, the invitations slow down. In her fifties, with everyone busy and her role shrinking, it feels like proof she's exhausting to be around.
She poured out a year's wages in expensive perfume on Jesus' feet, let down her hair in public (scandalous), and loved 'too extravagantly' by everyone's standards. Jesus defended her lavish love instantly, saying she'd done a BEAUTIFUL thing and would be remembered forever.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too much to be fully loved! IT IS WRITTEN that God calls me HEPHZIBAH—His delight is IN me, not just in tolerable doses of me! I am not someone to be rationed or endured; I am someone to be CELEBRATED. IT IS WRITTEN that the Father runs toward me, not away, and He never asks me to show up smaller. The BARAK blessing over my life means I am blessed coming in—ALL of me coming in, not just the edited version. I don't have to ration my presence; I get to SHOW UP. I am loved lavishly, completely, and WITHOUT MEASURE!
The Father doesn't embrace you while calculating how long He can tolerate your presence before needing a break. He's pulling you close, holding you tight, and never letting go—because being with you is His JOY, not His burden.
