"My disability is punishment for something I or my family did wrong."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe your mom took medicine during pregnancy. Maybe it's generational sin. Maybe you did something in the womb. The traveling preacher said all sickness is from sin, so obviously you or someone you're connected to really messed up.
"Jesus answered, 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.'"
-- John 9:3Religion connects disability to divine punishment, making physical conditions evidence of spiritual failure or curse.
Religious people keep asking what caused it, like there must be a sin reason. The Job's counselors approach - surely there's hidden wickedness somewhere - feels more biblical than random chance.
Blind from birth, disciples asked Jesus whose sin caused it - the man's or his parents'? Jesus said NEITHER - this happened so God's works could be displayed. Healed instantly with mud and spit, became powerful testimony religious leaders couldn't silence.
I REFUSE the lie that my disability is punishment for sin. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus explicitly said the man's blindness wasn't caused by his sin or his parents' sin - it was for God's glory. Christ redeemed me from the curse of the law - I don't carry punishment, I carry BLESSING. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus - not for me, not for my parents, not for my family line. The BARAK blessing of Abraham flows through me by covenant, not by genetic perfection. My body's condition is not evidence of God's anger but opportunity for His glory.
The Father doesn't see your disability as punishment He's inflicting - He sees it as an opportunity to display His goodness and power. Like the blind man who never sinned to cause his condition, you are blameless and beloved, positioned for God's works to be revealed.
