"My disability has made me miss out on the abundant life Jesus promised."
How it sounds in your head: Jesus said He came to give abundant life, but how is THIS abundant? I've missed so much. Normal things—dancing, hiking, independence. This isn't the 'more abundantly' He promised.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
-- John 10:10World system defines abundance by physical experience and activity, making those with limited mobility feel they've been cheated of Jesus' promise.
She's spent 90+ years watching others experience freedoms her body never allowed. Every limitation feels like evidence that 'abundant life' was for others, not her.
Sick for 12 YEARS, spent all her money on doctors who made her worse, isolated by religious law calling her unclean. One touch of Jesus' garment and she was IMMEDIATELY healed—'Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.' Instant abundance after years of limitation.
I REFUSE the lie that abundant life requires an able body. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came to give LIFE MORE ABUNDANTLY, and that life is HIS PRESENCE, not my performance. Abundance is not measured by miles walked but by CHRIST IN ME, the hope of glory. IT IS WRITTEN that in His presence is FULLNESS of joy; at His right hand are pleasures forevermore. I have HIM. That is abundance. The BARAK blessing is mine: blessed in my lying down and my rising up, in limitation and in freedom. I receive the Father's definition of abundance: HIMSELF.
The Father's abundant life flows THROUGH weakness, not around it. Like the woman who touched His hem after 12 years of suffering, you are one encounter away from FULLNESS. The prodigal experienced abundance not when he got his act together, but when he came HOME to the Father's embrace.
