"My ADHD means I'm undisciplined and lazy, not really struggling with something medical."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone says I just need to try harder and focus better. My teacher thinks I'm not applying myself. Maybe they're right - maybe I'm just making excuses and I'm actually lazy. If I really wanted to, I could control my attention.
"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well."
-- Psalm 139:14Cultural dismissal of neurodivergence as character failure, creating shame around brain differences.
He's been told repeatedly to 'just focus' as if it's a choice he's refusing to make. The consistent messaging that it's a discipline problem makes him doubt the medical reality.
Peter showed classic ADHD traits - impulsive decisions, starting strong then getting distracted, jumping out of boats without thinking it through. Jesus didn't rebuke him for being undisciplined but reached out His hand and continued investing in Peter as a leader.
I REFUSE the lie that ADHD is a character flaw or laziness. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and my brain's unique wiring is part of God's intentional design. I am not broken or undisciplined - I am differently wired for unique purpose. My struggles with focus are neurological, not moral failures. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, fully righteous with ADHD. The BARAK blessing of Abraham covers me completely, declaring me blessed in how God created me. I celebrate my neurodivergence as part of God's marvelous works.
The Father doesn't see your ADHD as something to fix before He can love you - He designed your brain uniquely and is giving you tools and support to thrive exactly as you are. While others demand you become neurotypical, the Father celebrates the specific way He wired you and calls it wonderful.
