"I've let God down by being a burden to others"
How it sounds in your head: You need help getting dressed. Someone has to drive you to appointments. Your kids have to manage your medications. You hear the exhaustion in their voices. You've become what you swore you'd never be - a burden. Surely God is disappointed you couldn't stay independent.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9World's lie that independence equals worth, mixed with religious pressure to never need help, making dependence feel like spiritual failure.
You see the strain on your children's faces. You hate asking for help. You remember being the caretaker, and now you're the one needing care. Culture celebrates self-sufficiency, making your dependence feel like you've failed at aging gracefully.
Mephibosheth was crippled in both feet, completely dependent on others for care. King David sought him out specifically to show kindness, gave him land, wealth, and a permanent seat at the king's table. His disability didn't disqualify him - it positioned him for ROYAL provision.
I REFUSE the lie that being a burden disappoints God. IT IS WRITTEN that His strength is PERFECTED in my weakness, and my dependence showcases His grace. I reject the world's worship of independence and receive the truth that God designed His body to CARRY one another. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 6:2 to bear one another's burdens. My need for help is not failure - it's OPPORTUNITY for others to experience the blessing of giving. God is not disappointed; He's displaying His POWER through my weakness.
The Father doesn't look at your need for help with disappointment. He sees a daughter who has spent decades GIVING, and now He's orchestrating others to pour back into you - not as charity, but as the beautiful design of His family where the strong carry the weak.
