"God expected me to be further along spiritually by now. I'm behind."
How it sounds in your head: Other people my age seem so mature in their faith. I should be stronger, should pray more, should understand the Bible better. God had a timeline for me and I'm not meeting it. I'm spiritually stunted.
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."
-- Philippians 1:6Source: Religious performance metrics that treat spiritual growth like academic grades, implying God has development timelines and believers can be held back for poor performance.
She's grown up with grade levels, benchmarks, milestones - being behind feels shameful. When she sees peers leading worship or quoting Scripture easily, she feels like she's in spiritual detention while others advance.
This man had zero spiritual maturity, zero Bible knowledge, zero ministry experience, was literally a criminal dying for his crimes. Jesus didn't say 'you should be further along' - He said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise.' Instant acceptance with no spiritual resume.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm behind God's timeline for me. IT IS WRITTEN that HE who began a good work in me will complete it. I'm not the one building my spiritual life - HE is. There is no behind in grace. The thief on the cross went from criminal to Paradise in one breath with zero spiritual maturity. IT IS WRITTEN that I am complete IN CHRIST, not in my progress. God isn't disappointed in my pace. He's confidently finishing what He started.
While you're measuring yourself against others, the Father is confidently working in you at the perfect pace, not comparing you to anyone. He's not worried about your timeline because He's the One writing it.
