"I'm too old and broken for God to really want me. I'm just waiting to die."
How it sounds in your head: Young people have potential—God can use them. But you? You're in your eighties, body failing, mind slipping, no contribution left to make. You're in the waiting room of death, and God has moved on to people who still have usefulness ahead. You're not wanted. You're just... waiting.
"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."
-- Psalm 92:12-14Enemy using youth-obsessed culture and usefulness doctrine, religious lie that value equals productivity, world's message that old age is irrelevance.
Culture worships youth and potential, church focuses on 'next generation,' body is failing, sees himself as having nothing left to contribute. Feels invisible, forgotten, warehoused until death.
At 85 years old, after wandering 40 years, Caleb said 'Give me this mountain!' Didn't ask for easy retirement land. Asked for the HARDEST territory with giants and fortified cities. 'I am as strong today as I was forty years ago.' Took the mountain. EIGHTY-FIVE. Most fruitful conquest in old age.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too old for God to want me. IT IS WRITTEN: 'They shall STILL bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing.' I am not in a waiting room. I am in a FLOURISHING season. I am the seed of Abraham, blessed with the BARAK that never expires with age. IT IS WRITTEN that the best wine was saved for LAST. I am not waiting to die. I am positioned to FLOURISH. God's plans for me are GOOD, not warehousing. Fresh and flourishing is my PRESENT identity, not my past.
The Father is saving the best wine for last, preparing fruit in this season that will outlast your lifetime, delighting in you not for what you can do but for who you are—His beloved son who gets MORE valuable with age, not less.
