"I'm too much of a mess right now—I need to get it together before God can use me."
How it sounds in your head: My room is a disaster. My grades are slipping. My mental health is barely hanging on. I can't even manage my own life—how could God use me for anything? I'll serve Him once I get my act together.
"But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are."
-- 1 Corinthians 1:27-28Religion + enemy: Performance-based religion plus the accuser's timing lies combine to convince you that God only uses people who have it all figured out.
You look at 'put together' people in leadership and assume that's the requirement. Your life feels chaotic, and you've internalized the idea that God waits for you to clean up before He shows up.
Angel called Gideon a 'mighty man of valor' while he was hiding in a winepress, terrified, from the weakest tribe, the least in his family. Gideon argued he was unqualified. God said 'GO IN THIS MIGHT OF YOURS'—and gave him INSTANT victory over armies with just 300 men.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to get it together before God can use me. IT IS WRITTEN that God CHOOSES the weak and foolish on PURPOSE to display His strength—my mess is not disqualification; it's the PERFECT PLACE for His glory. My chaos doesn't delay His plans; it SHOWCASES His power. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO CONDEMNATION in Christ—I don't have to earn readiness. The BARAK blessing covers me in the MIDDLE of the mess because it's based on COVENANT, not condition. I am not waiting to be ready—I am ready NOW because HE is in me. My weakness is His strength's favorite stage.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to get it together—He's saying 'Come as you are, mess and all, and watch what I do with this.' Moses had a speech impediment. David was a shepherd kid. Peter was impulsive. God uses messy people on PURPOSE.
