"I'm too afraid to engage in spiritual warfare; what if the enemy retaliates?"
How it sounds in your head: You've heard stories about people who confronted darkness and experienced backlash - attacks on their families, increased spiritual oppression, things getting worse before they get better. What if standing up to the enemy makes him mad? What if he comes after you harder? Maybe it's safer to just fly under the radar, don't provoke him, stay quiet and small and unnoticed.
"You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world."
-- 1 John 4:4Source: Enemy uses fear to keep believers paralyzed, portraying himself as a dangerous adversary who can retaliate when he's actually a defeated foe under your feet.
The spiritual warfare stories you've heard sound intense and scary. The idea of making the enemy angry and becoming a bigger target feels like volunteering for suffering. It seems wiser to avoid unnecessary conflict, especially when you're already overwhelmed with life.
Three young men faced a threat of being burned alive in a furnace heated seven times hotter than normal. They didn't know if God would deliver them, but they refused to bow. When thrown into the fire, God showed up in the flames with them, and they walked out without even the smell of smoke. The retaliation they feared became the platform for God's glory. They weren't harmed - they were promoted.
I REFUSE the lie that engaging in spiritual warfare will provoke enemy retaliation I can't handle. IT IS WRITTEN that He who is in me is GREATER than he who is in the world. The enemy can't retaliate against someone under the covering of the Almighty. I am not risking my safety by using the authority Jesus gave me - I am walking IN my safety. The enemy is a defeated foe, and his threats are empty. IT IS WRITTEN that no weapon formed against me shall prosper. The blessing of Abraham is on my life - the blessing that sent terror on entire cities to protect Jacob's family, the blessing that caused Pharaoh's household to be plagued to protect Abraham the liar. The BARAK doesn't just cover me when I'm quiet and small - it covers me when I stand bold in authority. My Father is bigger than any retaliation the enemy could dream of attempting.
Your Father isn't sending you into battle unprotected, hoping you'll be brave enough to survive. He's already placed you in the safest position in the universe - hidden in Christ, sealed by the Spirit, covered by the blood. The enemy's threats are noise. You're not in danger - the kingdom of darkness is terrified of who you are in Jesus.
