"I'm powerless over my addiction. I can't fight it, even now."
How it sounds in your head: Step One says I'm powerless. And I feel it—even at 90, the cravings come. I'm too weak to resist. If I couldn't beat this in my prime, how can I now when I'm frail and dying?
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
-- Philippians 4:13Source: 12-step theology that stops at human powerlessness without completing the truth—Christ's POWER in you.
He's been taught for decades that admitting powerlessness IS the victory. His body is weaker than ever, and cravings still surface. The program made powerlessness the identity instead of the STARTING POINT for God's power.
Samson was blind, chained, enslaved, hair cut, strength gone—utterly powerless by human measure. One prayer—'Strengthen me just once more'—and God's power INSTANTLY returned, killing more enemies in his death than in his entire life. Powerlessness is where God's power shows up strongest.
I REFUSE the lie that powerlessness is my permanent state. IT IS WRITTEN that I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me. I am not fighting addiction in my own strength—Christ IN me is the power. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells IN ME (Romans 8:11). IT IS WRITTEN in Zechariah 4:6, 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord.' I rest in the Vine. I receive His strength. I am NOT powerless—I am FILLED with resurrection power.
The Father doesn't condemn you for feeling weak—He RUNS toward your weakness because that's where His strength shines brightest. The prodigal had no power to fix himself, and the Father didn't wait for him to GET power—He covered him in the robe while he was still WEAK.
