"I'm damaged goods - no woman would want me with this history."
How it sounds in your head: You carry shame about your past like a scarlet letter. You think your addiction history disqualifies you from healthy relationships. When you imagine explaining your past to someone you're attracted to, you feel worthless - like you're bringing nothing but baggage.
"To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."
-- Isaiah 61:3Source: Shame-based identity that defines you by your worst moments rather than Christ's redemptive power and complete restoration.
You've lost relationships because of your addiction. You compare yourself to guys with clean histories and feel inferior. The thought of vulnerability about your past triggers intense shame and fear of rejection.
Rahab was a PROSTITUTE - her entire identity was sexual sin and exploitation. God not only saved her, but put her in the MESSIANIC LINE. She married Salmon, had Boaz, became the great-great-grandmother of King David and an ancestor of JESUS. Her past didn't disqualify her - it showcased God's redemption.
I REFUSE the lie that I am damaged goods. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives BEAUTY for ASHES. My past is not a disqualification - it's a testimony of His POWER. I am not defined by my worst moments - I am defined by His BLOOD. Rahab was a prostitute and became royalty in the line of Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. The BARAK blessing makes me the head and not the tail. I am not bringing baggage to relationships - I'm bringing a testimony of REDEMPTION. The right woman will see God's glory in my story, not shame in my history.
The Father doesn't see you as damaged goods. He sees you as a PRIZE - bought at the highest price, restored to full value, absolutely worthy of love. He's preparing someone who will marvel at what He's done in you, not recoil from where you've been.
