"I'll start tithing again when my finances improve and stabilize"

How it sounds in your head: You used to tithe when you had a full salary. Now that you're on retirement income, it just doesn't make sense. Once things level out—maybe when you sell the house or when Social Security increases—then you'll get back to giving. It's just temporary.

Haggai 1:6-9

"You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes. Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,' says the LORD. 'You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?' says the LORD of hosts. 'Because of My house that is in ruins, while every one of you runs to his own house.'"

-- Haggai 1:6-9
Enemy whispers: Wait until you have extra to give. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Haggai 1:6-9—They said 'The time has not come to build the LORD's house'—they were waiting for better finances. But God said, 'THAT'S WHY your finances have holes! You're waiting for increase while ignoring the KEY to increase.' They put God's house last and wondered why their money disappeared. IT IS WRITTEN in Matthew 6:33—'Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and ALL these things shall be ADDED to you.' FIRST means first, not 'when convenient.' The widow at Zarephath gave FIRST from her last meal and got three years of supply. Giving isn't the result of blessing—it's the RELEASE of blessing.
Quick Truth: LIE: I'll give when finances improve. TRUTH: Finances improve when you give FIRST—Haggai 1:9 says delay is why money has holes. Seek FIRST.

Enemy's delay tactic, reversing cause and effect—making blessing the prerequisite instead of the result.

Why this feels true:

You genuinely intend to give later, so it doesn't feel like disobedience—just delayed obedience. Waiting until you have 'extra' feels responsible and less stressful.

Haggai 1:1-11
Israelites in Haggai

They delayed rebuilding God's temple, saying 'the time hasn't come yet'—waiting for financial stability first. But God said their delay was WHY they had 'bags with holes'—the moment they PRIORITIZED His house (Haggai 1:14-15), the blessing was released and provision flowed.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that I'll give when I have more. IT IS WRITTEN that I seek FIRST the kingdom and all these things are ADDED. Waiting for increase while withholding the seed is why increase doesn't come. The Israelites said 'not yet' and their money had HOLES—the moment they obeyed, provision flooded. I don't give FROM blessing; I give TO RELEASE blessing. IT IS WRITTEN that God opens windows of heaven for the tither. I am Abraham's seed, heir to the BARAK that multiplied wealth regardless of behavior. My giving isn't about abundance—it's about OBEDIENCE. I don't wait for harvest to plant seed. I am BLESSED in my storehouse, BLESSED in all I set my hand to!

But God actually:

The Father isn't waiting for your finances to improve to bless you—He's waiting for your OBEDIENCE so He can CAUSE them to improve! Like the Israelites with bags full of holes, your delay is the BLOCK, not your bank account. He's not frustrated with you—He's EAGER to show you that the moment you say YES, the windows open and the 'not enough' becomes 'more than enough.'
