"The church just wants my money to fund their programs and buildings."
How it sounds in your head: Look at the pastor's car, the new building campaign, the constant appeals for more money. They're just using guilt and Bible verses to fund their operation. If God's so powerful, why does He always need MY wallet?
"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it."
-- Malachi 3:10Source: religious system abuse that made giving transactional instead of covenantal, plus legitimate wounds from manipulative fundraising.
You've seen church scandals, prosperity preachers with jets, and constant building campaigns while people struggle. The cynicism feels like discernment—you're protecting yourself from being used, and some of that caution comes from real abuse.
This church gave to Paul out of their poverty when NO other church partnered with him—they sent again and again despite being broke themselves. Paul's response: 'My God shall supply ALL your need according to His riches in glory'—their generosity toward ministry unlocked heaven's storehouse over their own lack, instant covenant activation.
I REFUSE the lie that generosity is funding corruption. IT IS WRITTEN: God invites me to TEST Him—to bring tithes and watch Him open heaven's windows over MY life with blessing I can't contain. Some abuse the pulpit, but I don't withhold covenant obedience because of Judas's theft. I am Abraham's seed, heir to the barak that blessed him even when he LIED—my giving operates under GRACE, not human perfection. IT IS WRITTEN: my God supplies ALL my need according to HIS riches, not according to church budgets. I give into the storehouse and heaven's supply pours into mine—covenant exchange, not transaction. I am blessed coming in and going out, above only and not beneath.
Your Father isn't using guilt to extract money—He's inviting you into the only test He ever offers: pour out generosity and watch Me flood your life with provision. Even if humans misuse it, your covenant isn't with pastors but with Jehovah Jireh, and He's running toward you with open windows of heaven, not away with disappointment over your skepticism.
