"I'll never escape the shame—people will always see me as the addict."
How it sounds in your head: Your family knows. Your old coworkers whispered. Even at church, you feel the label: 'That's the guy who had a problem.' At funerals, people still mention it. Your obituary will probably lead with recovery. The shame is your shadow.
"Instead of your shame you shall have double honor, and instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land they shall possess double; everlasting joy shall be theirs."
-- Isaiah 61:7Religious shame + enemy accusation that your past defines you more than Jesus' blood.
People DO remember. They DO bring it up. You've carried it for 50 years and it never fully lifts. At your age, reputations are set in stone. Too late to rewrite the narrative.
Rahab was a PROSTITUTE—the most shameful profession, her identity literally 'Rahab the harlot.' One act of faith and she's in the MESSIANIC LINE—great-great-grandmother of King David, listed in Jesus' genealogy. From ultimate shame to DOUBLE HONOR in Jesus' family tree. Forever.
I REFUSE the lie that shame defines me. IT IS WRITTEN that instead of my shame I have DOUBLE HONOR. I am not 'the addict'—I am BELOVED SON, RIGHTEOUS in Christ, CROWNED with glory and honor. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO CONDEMNATION for me in Christ Jesus—not 'less when people forget' but NONE, ever. My past is covered by BLOOD that speaks better things. Like Rahab went from harlot to Jesus' lineage, I go from shame to HONOR. I walk in the BARAK blessing—blessed coming and going, blessed in reputation, blessed in testimony. Everlasting JOY is mine.
The Father doesn't introduce you by your past. He introduces you as His BELOVED SON in whom He is WELL PLEASED. That's not future tense after you prove yourself—that's NOW. The robe, the ring, the sandals are already on you.
