"I'll never be able to work out or play sports like I used to - that life is over."

How it sounds in your head: You used to be athletic, strong, capable. Now you're sidelined watching everyone else live the life you had. That part of your identity is gone. You'll never lift heavy again, never play pickup basketball, never feel that strength. You're transitioning to the 'used to be' category while still in your early twenties.

Joel 2:25

"So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you."

-- Joel 2:25
Enemy whispers: 'That life is over, move on.' BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Joel 2:25 - 'I will RESTORE to you the years that the locust has eaten.' Not 'accept the loss.' Not 'find new hobbies.' RESTORE. God is a restoring God. Peter cut off a man's EAR with a sword - Jesus picked it up and PUT IT BACK ON (Luke 22:51). Restoration, not just healing. If He can reattach a severed ear, He can restore athletic capability. Samson's hair grew back and his strength RETURNED even after he lost everything.
Quick Truth: LIE: Athletic life is over. TRUTH: God RESTORES years the locust ate. Samson's strength returned, ear reattached. (Joel 2:25)

Enemy stealing strength-based identity during formative manhood years, replacing capability with limitation before career and family even start.

Why this feels true:

The pain is real every time you try to do what you used to do. The doctor said avoid high-impact activities. Your body confirms the limitation every time you test it. Everyone's advice is to find 'other interests' - which feels like giving up on who you were.

2 Samuel 9:1-13
Mephibosheth

Crippled in both feet since age 5, lived in hiding, identity was 'lame.' David RESTORED him to the king's table permanently, gave back ALL the land of Saul, treated him like a king's son. Went from hiding in Lo Debar to eating at the king's table every day. Restoration of position even when physical limitation remained - but you're in a BETTER covenant that restores the BODY too.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that my athletic life is over. IT IS WRITTEN: 'I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten' - God restores what was stolen, He doesn't just compensate. Peter's sword cut off an ear and Jesus PUT IT BACK - that's restoration beyond healing. Samson's strength RETURNED. IT IS WRITTEN: 'By His stripes I am healed' - present tense, which means my body is being restored to full function right now. The BARAK blessing from Abraham means I am blessed in everything I put my hand to - including weights, sports, physical strength. I am the head and not the tail in athletic capability. My latter days will be greater than my former.

But God actually:

While you're grieving the loss of your athletic identity, Father is running toward you with the same restoration power that brought Samson's strength back after it was completely gone. He's not asking you to find new hobbies - He's offering to restore the years pain stole, plus interest.
