"If you leave this church or denomination, you're walking away from God's will and covering."
How it sounds in your head: They said this is where God planted you, and leaving means rebelling against His leadership structure. You'll lose spiritual protection. You're breaking covenant. Every bad thing that happens after will prove you made the wrong choice.
"For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ."
-- Galatians 1:10Source: Spiritual manipulation using fear of lost covering to control and prevent people from leaving abusive or wrong-fit environments.
Authority figures genuinely told you that their leadership equals God's covering, and leaving equals danger. You fear confirming their warnings if anything goes wrong.
God told him 'Get out of your country, from your family and your father's house to a land I will show you.' Abraham left everything familiar including religious structures, and the BARAK blessing came specifically BECAUSE he left what was comfortable.
I REFUSE the lie that a building or organization mediates God's covering. IT IS WRITTEN that Paul chose pleasing God over pleasing men. The BARAK blessing followed Abraham OUT of his father's house—sometimes leaving is obedience. IT IS WRITTEN: the Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Jesus is my covering; institutions are not. God's will isn't trapped in one location or denomination. I follow the Shepherd's voice, not guilt or fear. My covenant is with Christ, and it's unbreakable regardless of where I gather.
The Father is running toward you with the freedom to follow His voice even when it leads you away from what others said was His will. He's not confined to their box, and your relationship with Him isn't mediated by their approval.
