"If I left the church that hurt me, I'm a quitter who lacks commitment."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone says you don't leave when it gets hard, you stay and work through it. Maybe I'm just too sensitive, too easily offended, not strong enough to endure. Quitters never win, right? Maybe the problem is me.
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."
-- Galatians 5:1Source: False teaching that equates loyalty to toxic environments with spiritual maturity, weaponizing commitment to keep people in abusive or dead systems.
You've heard sermons on commitment, seen social media posts about church-hopping, and maybe even been told directly that leaving is rebellion or lack of perseverance. The guilt is real and layered.
God told Abraham to LEAVE his country, his family, and his father's house to go to a land he'd never seen. Abraham obeyed and left everything familiar. God called it FAITH, not quitting, and made him the father of nations—instant blessing on leaving what was comfortable.
I REFUSE the lie that leaving a toxic church makes me a quitter. IT IS WRITTEN to stand fast in the LIBERTY Christ gave me and not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage—if it's crushing me, it's NOT from Him. Leaving death for life isn't quitting; it's WISDOM. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus' yoke is easy and His burden is light. Abraham LEFT everything familiar, and God called it FAITH. I carry the BARAK blessing of Abraham—I am blessed coming in and GOING OUT. God is leading me to LIFE, and every step away from death is a step toward His purpose for me.
The Father is running toward you saying, 'You didn't quit—you SURVIVED. I'm so proud of you for choosing life.' He's whispering that leaving Egypt isn't rebellion; it's exodus, and He's leading you to a promised land those voices will never see.
