"I don't need organized religion or a church building to have a relationship with God."
How it sounds in your head: I can worship God on a mountaintop. I can pray at home. Why do I need to sit through boring sermons and fake small talk? My faith is personal—me and God, that's enough. Church is just a man-made institution anyway.
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."
-- Hebrews 10:24-25Source: Western individualism mixed with religion's emphasis on personal quiet time over corporate gathering, making isolation feel spiritual.
He genuinely does experience God in nature and private prayer, which feels more authentic than awkward Sunday services. Modern culture celebrates independence, making church attendance seem like religious obligation rather than relational necessity.
Elijah isolated himself, convinced he was the ONLY faithful one left, ready to die alone. God's response: 'I have 7,000 others who haven't bowed to Baal—you're NOT alone.' Isolation had made him believe a lie that community immediately corrected.
I REFUSE the lie that I can do this faith alone. IT IS WRITTEN not to forsake assembling together but to exhort one another. I am a BRANCH designed for connection to the Vine AND other branches. I am not a lone wolf; I am part of a BODY where every member matters. IT IS WRITTEN that where two or three gather in His name, He is there—there's power in corporate presence I cannot access alone. I receive the BARAK blessing that flows through covenant community. I am not isolated; I am INTEGRATED into God's family.
The Father is whispering, 'I created you for family, not isolation. Yes, meet Me on the mountain—but then come to the table with your brothers. I have gifts for you that can ONLY come through other people. You're not being religious; you're coming HOME to a feast I'm throwing.'
