"If I was really faithful, I wouldn't have gotten sick in the first place."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe I didn't pray enough. Maybe I sinned and this is punishment. Other kids are healthy—what did I do wrong? If I had more faith, this wouldn't be happening. I must have failed somehow.
"And His disciples asked Him, saying, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' Jesus answered, 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.'"
-- John 9:2-3Source: Religion teaching that sickness is punishment for insufficient faith or hidden sin.
Adults keep asking 'what do you think God is trying to teach you through this?' which makes it sound like God made him sick on purpose. If sickness is a lesson, then he must have needed correcting.
Job was called 'blameless and upright' by God Himself—perfect report card. Then he lost everything and was covered in boils. His suffering was NOT because of sin or weak faith; Satan attacked him. God's final response wasn't correction but RESTORATION—double everything back.
I REFUSE the lie that my sickness is my fault. IT IS WRITTEN that the blind man's condition wasn't from sin but for God's glory to be revealed. I didn't sin my way into this diagnosis. I'm not being punished; I'm being targeted by an enemy Jesus already defeated. My faith didn't fail; my body is under attack in a broken world. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus—not less condemnation, not conditional forgiveness—NONE. The BARAK blessing covered Abraham when he LIED, Jacob when he DECEIVED, and it covers ME not because I'm perfect but because JESUS is. I am righteous by GIFT, not by health.
Your Father isn't looking at your sickness and shaking His head in disappointment. He's looking at your sickness and remembering the price His Son paid to destroy it. You didn't disqualify yourself—Jesus qualified you, forever.
