"This diagnosis proves I'm being punished for past sins."

How it sounds in your head: You know what you did. The affairs, the lies, the years you walked away from God. This is His payback. You deserve this suffering—it's justice for the pain you caused others. You can't expect blessing after the choices you made.

Micah 7:18-19

"Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea."

-- Micah 7:18-19
Enemy whispers: This sickness is punishment for your past. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Micah 7:18-19 - God PARDONS iniquity, does NOT retain anger, delights in MERCY, and casts ALL our sins into the depths of the sea. Not 'remembers them and punishes later.' CAST INTO THE SEA. IT IS WRITTEN in Isaiah 43:25, 'I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.' God doesn't have a delayed punishment system. Jesus took ALL punishment at the cross. If sickness were payback, then Jesus' suffering meant nothing.
Quick Truth: LIE: Sickness is punishment. TRUTH: God cast ALL your sins into the sea and doesn't remember them—no condemnation (Mic 7:19, Rom 8:1)

Source: religious karma teaching and Old Covenant thinking that ignores the complete forgiveness and cancellation of debt at the cross.

Why this feels true:

He carries real guilt from real failures—broken vows, moral compromises, people he hurt. The diagnosis feels like proportional punishment, and accepting it as deserved feels like appropriate penance.

John 8:3-11
The adulterous woman

She was caught in the very ACT of adultery—undeniable guilt, deserving death by law. Jesus didn't punish her, didn't lecture her, didn't make her suffer—He said 'Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.' INSTANT forgiveness, no payment required.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that this diagnosis is divine punishment for my past. IT IS WRITTEN that God has cast ALL my sins into the depths of the sea and will not remember them. Jesus took every bit of punishment I deserved at the cross—there is NO condemnation left for me. IT IS WRITTEN that He does not retain His anger because He DELIGHTS in mercy. My past is under the blood, my present is secure in Christ, and my future is blessed. The BARAK blessing covered Abraham's lies, Jacob's deception, Judah's adultery—it covers me completely. God isn't in the revenge business; He's in the restoration business. I am forgiven, righteous, and healed—not because I've earned it but because JESUS earned it for me.

But God actually:

The Father isn't keeping a record of your wrongs to balance with corresponding punishments—He's the One who RAN to the prodigal who'd just blown everything on prostitutes and threw a party instead of a penalty. He's not looking at your past; He's looking at the blood of His Son that covers you completely, saying 'Forgiven, clean, Mine.'
