"If I recover from this eating disorder, I'll gain weight and lose the one thing I can control."
How it sounds in your head: The eating disorder feels like the only thing keeping chaos at bay. It's exhausting and destructive, but it's YOURS - the one area where you dictate the rules. Recovery sounds like surrendering the only control you have and watching your body spiral into something you can't manage.
"To give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."
-- Isaiah 61:3Enemy offering false control through destruction, tempting with mastery over the body while killing spirit, soul, and body.
Everything else in her late twenties feels uncertain - career, relationships, future - but the eating disorder has predictable patterns. It's destroying her, but it's familiar destruction, and the unknown of recovery feels more terrifying than the known suffering.
The paralytic waited 38 YEARS by the pool, trapped in his condition, hoping for healing but stuck in familiar suffering. Jesus asked 'Do you WANT to be made well?' - and the man hesitated, explaining why it was impossible. Jesus didn't wait for him to figure it out; He said 'RISE' and IMMEDIATELY the man was made well - instant healing, instant freedom from decades of bondage.
I REFUSE the lie that this eating disorder is control worth keeping. IT IS WRITTEN that God exchanges BEAUTY for ASHES, and this disorder is ASHES in my hands. Jesus came to give ABUNDANT LIFE, and that includes freedom in my body and peace with food. IT IS WRITTEN that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy - and this disorder is the thief's work, not God's design. I surrender the false control that's destroying me and receive TRUE rest in Father's hands. The BARAK blessing declares me blessed in my BODY, and I step into the healing Jesus purchased at the cross. I choose LIFE, abundant and free, and I trust Father's goodness more than I trust my ability to manage chaos through restriction.
Father isn't waiting for you to be ready or strong enough to recover - He's asking 'Do you WANT to be made well?' and He's ready to speak 'RISE' over your IMMEDIATE freedom. He's not taking control away; He's offering the EXCHANGE - ashes for beauty, bondage for freedom, exhaustion for rest.
