"If I go back to church, they'll just use me again until I burn out."
How it sounds in your head: You know the script. They'll love-bomb you until you're on three committees and a small group leader, then vanish when you need something. Your 'yes' made you valuable. Your boundaries made you difficult. You're done being free labor for their vision while your family got leftovers.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
-- Matthew 11:28Source: religious systems that mistake activity for relationship and extract service while neglecting soul care, creating trauma around belonging.
You have the emotional scars and the neglected family and the unanswered calls when YOU needed help. The pattern was clear: your value was your usefulness, and you're not signing up for round two.
While her sister Martha bustled with serving and burned out trying to earn Jesus' approval through activity, Mary just sat at His feet. When Martha complained that Mary wasn't helping, Jesus defended Mary's choice: 'Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.' Relationship over productivity was celebrated, not criticized.
I REFUSE the lie that church means being used until empty. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus calls me to REST, not another task list. I am not defined by my usefulness. I am Abraham's seed, blessed by covenant, not by productivity. IT IS WRITTEN that I am His workmanship, created for good works He PREPARED - I don't earn belonging through serving. I am the righteousness of God in Christ BEFORE I do anything. The Father invites me to the table as daughter, not staff. Mary's choice was celebrated, and so is mine to just BE with Him.
The Father isn't recruitment-texting you about nursery duty. He's running toward you saying 'I just want YOU - not your service, not your skills, not your schedule. Just come sit with Me.' Like the Prodigal, you're getting the party and the robe BEFORE you've done anything useful. You're daughter, not employee.
