"If church leaders failed me, I can't trust any spiritual authority."

How it sounds in your head: The pastor who seemed so holy had a secret life. The mentor who prayed with me manipulated me. If they couldn't be trusted, how can I trust anyone who claims to speak for God? Authority is just control.

Psalm 118:8

"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

-- Psalm 118:8
Enemy whispers: All spiritual authority is corrupt. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: Psalm 118:8 - 'It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.' God NEVER asked you to put ultimate trust in a pastor, leader, or mentor. Your trust belongs to Him alone. Yes, that leader failed—but they were never your savior. IT IS WRITTEN in Jeremiah 17:5, 'Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength.' Your strength was never meant to come from them. God has genuine fathers and mothers in the faith who carry His heart—but even they are human. Jesus is the only perfect Leader.
Quick Truth: LIE: All authority is corrupt. TRUTH: Trust God, not man. He'll show you who's safe. (Ps 118:8)

Source: Trauma from authority figures abusing power, mixed with enemy's plan to isolate you from genuine spiritual covering and community.

Why this feels true:

He experienced real abuse of power—manipulation disguised as mentorship, control disguised as care. The wound is deep because he trusted someone who weaponized that trust, and now his radar sees danger everywhere.

1 Samuel 2:12-36; 3:1-10
Eli the priest

Eli was a corrupt priest whose sons were wicked, stealing offerings and sleeping with women at the temple door, yet God still spoke to young Samuel IN THAT SAME HOUSE. God didn't wait for a perfect environment or perfect leader; He spoke directly to the young man and launched his prophetic ministry instantly.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that one leader's failure disqualifies all spiritual authority. IT IS WRITTEN that it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. My trust was never meant to be in a title, a position, or a person's reputation. When Eli the priest was corrupt, God STILL spoke to young Samuel in that same broken house. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 Corinthians 3:11 that 'no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.' Leaders are scaffolding, not foundation. I will honor genuine fathers and mothers in the faith, but I will NEVER give them the trust that belongs to God alone. The BARAK blessing over my life flows from covenant with God, not the perfection of human leaders.

But God actually:

The Father whispers, 'That leader hurt you, and I was grieved too. But I'm raising up true fathers and mothers who will reflect My heart—and even they will need grace. Trust ME, and I'll show you who's safe. You're not disqualified from spiritual family because one person failed.' He's already handpicked the real mentors, the genuine community, waiting to embrace you when you're ready.
