"I trusted a pastor and got burned—I can't trust spiritual leadership again."
How it sounds in your head: I opened up about my struggle and it became a sermon illustration. I gave sacrificially and watched them live large. I believed their prophecy and it destroyed me when it didn't happen. I was told to stay in an abusive marriage for the sake of ministry optics. I was used as free labor while they built their brand. Never again.
"It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."
-- Psalm 118:8Source: Actual pastoral abuse—spiritual authority used for personal gain or careless damage—now enemy says all leaders will repeat it.
A leader genuinely violated your trust through manipulation, financial impropriety, broken confidentiality, or self-serving counsel. The wound is REAL and deep.
David served under King Saul who tried to murder him with a spear TWICE, hunted him for years, and destroyed his reputation. David refused to retaliate or lose faith in God's design for authority. God brought him to mighty men who were loyal, and David became the king whose heart God celebrated. The right leader came AFTER the wrong one.
I REFUSE the lie that all leaders will betray me because one did. IT IS WRITTEN it's better to trust the Lord than man—I put confidence where it didn't belong. That leader failed, but IT IS WRITTEN God is raising up shepherds after His own heart. Like David under Saul's murderous leadership, I won't let betrayal poison my future. God is bringing me to my mighty men, to leaders with integrity. I am Abraham's seed. The BARAK blessing means God DEFENDS me even against bad authority. My discernment is sharper now. I'm not rejecting all leadership because one abused it. The right Barnabas is coming.
The Father is furious at that leader's abuse and tenderly healing your trust wound. He's preparing you for leaders who will serve, not use you. Your next season has Nathanaels—men in whom there is no deceit. Trust Him to lead you there.
