"I was burned by church once; I'm not risking that pain again by going back."
How it sounds in your head: I trusted them. I was vulnerable. They used it against me, gossiped about my struggles, made me feel exposed and humiliated. That betrayal cut deeper than anything from the world. I can't open myself up to that again.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
-- Psalm 147:3Source: Legitimate trauma from trusted spiritual community weaponizing vulnerability, creating walls to prevent future wounds.
The betrayal was real, the pain was deep, and the wound came from people who represented God, making it feel like God Himself betrayed him. Self-protection feels like wisdom when past trust led to devastation.
John Mark abandoned Paul and Barnabas on a mission trip, causing such a rift that Paul refused to work with him again. YEARS later, Paul wrote 'Get Mark and bring him, for he is useful to me for ministry'—complete restoration after complete failure and rejection.
I REFUSE the lie that past pain should prevent future connection. IT IS WRITTEN that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up wounds—including wounds from church. I will not let one betrayal blind me to authentic community God has for me. I am not naive, but I am not hardened. IT IS WRITTEN to forgive as Christ forgave me—not for their sake, but for my FREEDOM. I stand under the BARAK blessing where God PROTECTED even when people failed. I am not defined by what they did; I am defined by what HE did. I am healed, whole, and ready to risk again.
The Father is weeping with you saying, 'I know they hurt you. I know they used My name while wounding My child. But hiding won't heal you—only I can. Let Me bind up what they tore open. I have a FAMILY waiting who will reflect My heart, not their brokenness. One more try—but this time, let ME lead you to the right people.'
