"I wasn't a good enough wife and mother - my family problems prove it"
How it sounds in your head: My husband had that affair because I wasn't enough. My daughter won't visit because I failed her. My son's addiction is because I didn't pray hard enough or love well enough. Good mothers don't have broken families.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Cultural lie that women are responsible for everyone else's choices + religious teaching that family breakdown indicates maternal failure.
She can see the relational wreckage and her female conditioning says it's HER job to hold everyone together. The enemy uses her children's free will choices as 'evidence' of her inadequacy.
She played favorites with Jacob, manipulated her husband Isaac, orchestrated deception to steal Esau's blessing, and created a family rift that lasted decades. Yet she remained in the covenant line, the BARAK blessing stayed on her family, and the Messiah came through the son she manipulated FOR.
I REFUSE the lie that my family's struggles prove I was a bad wife and mother! IT IS WRITTEN that each person bears their own guilt and makes their own choices - I am NOT responsible for their free will. I did my best with the grace I had, and God's mercy covers every gap I can't even see. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. The BARAK blessing is on my family by covenant, not by my perfect mothering - the same blessing that covered Rebekah's manipulation and Sarah's doubt. I am righteous in Christ, and so is my motherhood!
The Father doesn't measure your worth by your family's choices - He sees you as His beloved daughter who loved imperfectly like every human mother. He's not disappointed; He's proud of every sacrifice, every prayer, every moment you showed up.
