"I have to get my life together before God will really use me."
How it sounds in your head: You've got secret struggles—porn, vaping, anger issues, whatever. You think once you finally conquer those, then God can work through you. Until then, you're benched, disqualified, waiting until you're 'clean enough.'
"But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty."
-- 1 Corinthians 1:27Source: Religious teaching that presents God as waiting for perfection instead of working through broken vessels.
You see the 'testimony' people at church who talk about their past tense struggles, and it feels like God only uses people who've 'arrived.' Your current mess feels disqualifying.
Broke every Nazirite vow, slept with prostitutes, was arrogant and impulsive, literally had his eyes gouged out as consequence. Yet in his most broken moment, blind and imprisoned, God used him to defeat more Philistines than in his entire previous ministry—instant breakthrough at his weakest point.
I REFUSE the lie that God is waiting for me to fix myself before He can use me. IT IS WRITTEN that God chose the weak and foolish things to shame the mighty and wise. My current struggles don't disqualify me—they're the canvas for His grace. Jacob was a deceiver, Moses a murderer, David an adulterer, Peter a denier, Paul a terrorist—and God used them ALL. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 5:8 that while we were STILL sinners, Christ died for us. He's not waiting for me to get better—He's working through me right now, weakness and all. I am a son, not a project waiting for completion.
The Father is running toward you in your current mess, not waiting at the finish line of your self-improvement journey. He uses broken crayons to color His masterpiece, and your weakness is the exact place His strength shows up best.
