"God is punishing me with this struggle because of past sins I've committed."
How it sounds in your head: I know what I did in my twenties—the sexual sin, the dishonesty, the selfishness. Maybe this financial struggle, this health issue, this relational breakdown is God paying me back. I deserve this. How can I expect blessing when I've failed so badly?
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Source: Old Covenant thinking that God operates on a punishment-reward system rather than finished grace.
Your past feels disqualifying, and when hard things happen, it's easy to connect them to your failures as divine payback. The enemy rehearses your history as evidence that you've forfeited blessing.
Manasseh was Judah's most wicked king—practiced witchcraft, sacrificed his own sons, filled Jerusalem with innocent blood. Yet when he humbled himself, God IMMEDIATELY heard his plea, brought him back, and restored him to his kingdom.
I REFUSE the lie that God is punishing me for past sins. IT IS WRITTEN that He has forgiven ALL my trespasses and nailed the record of wrongs to the cross. There is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus—not less, not sometimes, but NONE. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 103:12 that He has removed my sins as far as the east is from the west. Jesus took my punishment, which means I don't get it. The Father doesn't bring up my past—the enemy does. I stand in the BARAK blessing, which protected Abraham even when he LIED TWICE. If the covenant protected liars and deceivers, how much more does the blood of Jesus cover me? I am forgiven, cleansed, and free.
The Father isn't holding your past against you—He erased it at the cross and threw the evidence into the deepest sea. He doesn't see your sin; He sees the blood of His Son, and that blood declares you righteous, loved, and free from all punishment.
