"If I serve more at church, God will finally be pleased with me."
How it sounds in your head: I'm exhausted running the women's ministry, teaching Sunday school, organizing potlucks. Maybe if I just take on the nursery rotation too, I'll feel His approval. Everyone else seems to have that peace I don't have.
"To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved."
-- Ephesians 1:6Source: Religion's performance treadmill that turns the Father into a taskmaster who withholds affection until you're depleted.
You've been conditioned that love is earned through usefulness—at home, at work, at church. When you're not performing, you feel invisible, so you equate God's pleasure with your productivity.
Martha was serving, working, exhausted, frustrated that Mary just sat at Jesus' feet doing 'nothing.' Jesus said Mary chose the BETTER part—connection over production. He didn't praise the worker; He praised the abider.
I REFUSE the lie that my service earns God's pleasure. IT IS WRITTEN that I am ALREADY accepted in the Beloved—not after I've earned it, but because of CHRIST. I am a branch connected to the Vine, and fruit comes from ABIDING, not striving. The BARAK blessing over my life is based on COVENANT, not my church attendance or volunteer hours. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus—which means NO disappointment, NO waiting for me to do more. I rest in the finished work, and from that rest, supernatural fruit flows.
The Father sees you exhausted and says, 'Come to Me and REST—My yoke is easy, My burden is light.' He's not waiting for one more serving shift; He's inviting you to sit at His feet like Mary and discover you're already His favorite.
