"I was abusive in my past relationship and that makes me dangerous forever."
How it sounds in your head: You know what you said. How you grabbed her arm. The fear in her eyes. You're the guy the abuse prevention ads warn about. If you date again, do you disclose it? Are you safe to be around your own kids? You swore you'd never be like your dad, and then you were.
"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."
-- Ezekiel 36:26Source: guilt from real harm caused, fear of repeating patterns, enemy's identity assault, trauma cycle.
The abuse happened. She has bruises you caused or words you can't take back. You've seen the cycle in your family. Statistics say abusers repeat. You have evidence you're capable of harm. The fear of becoming your father feels prophetic.
Moses murdered an Egyptian and hid the body in the sand—premeditated violence. Yet God chose him to deliver Israel, meet face-to-face on the mountain, and write the first five books of the Bible. Murder didn't disqualify destiny.
I REFUSE the lie that my past violence defines my future character. IT IS WRITTEN God gives me a new heart and new spirit. Moses murdered a man and became Israel's deliverer. I am a new creation—the old heart of stone is REMOVED. The cycle breaks at the cross. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ. I am not my father. I am not my worst moment. I am TRANSFORMED, SAFE, walking in newness of heart that is God's work, not mine. The abuser died with Christ. Who rose is NEW.
The Father doesn't flinch from your violence. He gives you a NEW HEART while you're still afraid of yourself. His transformation isn't behavior modification—it's RECREATION at the core.
