"I was in a same-sex relationship. Even though I've left it, the church will never fully accept me."
How it sounds in your head: I'm the reformed gay one. People are polite but I'm never fully trusted with leadership or around youth. They think I might 'fall back' or influence others. I'm welcomed but never fully embraced. Always slightly 'other.'
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW CREATION; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Enemy + Religion: Pharisees created classes of sinners, but Jesus ate with 'tax collectors and SINNERS' with no hierarchy.
Church culture often treats sexual sin differently, especially same-sex attraction. You feel the whispers, see the hesitation when you volunteer, sense the distance in relationships. They say you're forgiven but treat you like you're contagious.
Church full of former sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, greedy, drunkards. Paul said 'such WERE some of you - but you were washed, sanctified, justified' and then addressed them as SAINTS with full standing, gave them spiritual gifts, no probation period.
I REFUSE the lie that my past same-sex relationship makes me permanently 'other' in the church. IT IS WRITTEN that if anyone is in Christ they are a NEW CREATION - old things have PASSED AWAY, ALL things have become NEW. I am not 'reformed gay person' - I am NEW CREATION. The Corinthian church included former homosexuals whom Paul called SAINTS with no hierarchy or probation period. IT IS WRITTEN such WERE some of you - past tense, washed, sanctified, justified. There is NO CONDEMNATION in Christ Jesus. I am BARAK blessed - fully accepted, fully trusted, fully embraced. I am not second-class. I am SAINT, RIGHTEOUS, BELOVED, and FULLY HIS.
The Father isn't keeping you at arm's length or putting asterisks next to your name. He's calling you BELOVED, entrusting you with MINISTRY, and introducing you as His DAUGHTER with no qualifiers or footnotes. You're fully IN, fully CLEAN, fully HIS.
