"I spent my whole life trying to earn love and never succeeded."
How it sounds in your head: You worked 60-hour weeks trying to prove you were enough. You achieved, provided, built, conquered—and it still wasn't enough. Nobody truly SAW you. You die still wondering if you mattered, still trying to earn what was never given freely.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
-- Ephesians 2:8-9Enemy built a lifetime performance treadmill, making love conditional on achievement, ensuring exhaustion and emptiness even with success.
He can list the achievements—degrees, promotions, houses, cars—and still feels empty. He gave his life to earning love and approval, and it never felt like enough. The treadmill never stopped.
The son tried to earn his way back—'make me a hired servant.' The Father didn't even let him FINISH the speech. He ran, embraced, restored him to FULL sonship—ring, robe, sandals, party—in minutes. No earning. Just GIFT.
I REFUSE the lie that I must earn love. IT IS WRITTEN that love is a GIFT, not of works, lest anyone should boast. I spent 90 years on a treadmill trying to earn what was freely offered the whole time. I step off NOW. I am loved not because of my resume but because of the blood of Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ—not 'becoming' righteous, not 'trying' to be righteous, but I AM righteous. I receive the Father's love like the prodigal—ring, robe, party—not earned, just GIVEN.
The Father isn't waiting for you to achieve one more thing to prove you're lovable—He's been standing at the end of the driveway your whole life, watching for you to just COME HOME. Every achievement you thought would make you enough, He's saying, 'I loved you BEFORE all that.' You can stop performing. The race is over. You're already home.
