"I shouldn't enjoy food anymore; I should be fasting and preparing for eternity."
How it sounds in your head: Spiritual people fast and deny themselves. I should be beyond earthly pleasures now, focused on heaven. Enjoying food at my age feels carnal and worldly.
"For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving."
-- 1 Timothy 4:4Religion + Gnostic heresy that denies God's GOOD gifts, teaching that spirituality requires rejecting physical pleasure.
She's heard sermons about 'storing up treasures in heaven' and 'denying the flesh.' Enjoying a good meal feels GUILTY when death is near—shouldn't she be 'above' that?
Jesus was accused of being 'a glutton and a winebibber' because He ATE and ENJOYED meals with people. He didn't fast His way through life—He FEASTED, and it scandalized the religious. Enjoyment of food is CHRISTLIKE.
I REFUSE the lie that I shouldn't enjoy food at my age. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if received with thanksgiving'—God GAVE food for pleasure, not punishment. Jesus FEASTED and was accused of enjoying food too much—I follow HIS example. IT IS WRITTEN: Whether you eat or drink, do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31)—ENJOYING His provision glorifies Him. The BARAK blessing includes abundance to ENJOY, not just survive. I receive every bite with JOY and thanksgiving.
The Father doesn't want you choking down joyless meals as penance. He's prepared a TABLE before you—ABUNDANT, DELICIOUS, meant to be SAVORED—because He delights in your delight.
