"I never forgave that person who hurt me. Now it's too late to make it right."
How it sounds in your head: I held onto bitterness for decades. I should have forgiven years ago. Now they're gone and I'm stuck with this unforgiveness. God won't forgive me because I didn't forgive.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religious lie: Matthew 6:15 applied as LAW—your forgiveness depends on your performance, not Jesus' blood.
Church taught 'forgive to be forgiven' as a condition. Decades of unforgiveness feels like permanent disqualification.
Jonah refused to forgive Nineveh, got angry at God's mercy, and wished he was dead rather than see his enemies blessed. God didn't reject Jonah—He gently questioned his bitterness and continued using him.
I REFUSE the lie that unforgiveness disqualifies me. IT IS WRITTEN: God has forgiven me ALL trespasses—not because I forgave perfectly, but because Jesus' blood COVERS perfectly. My forgiveness doesn't depend on my performance. I am not under LAW but under GRACE. Unforgiveness hurt ME, but it didn't change God's acceptance of me. IT IS WRITTEN: There is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. I receive the Father's forgiveness NOW, and it empowers me to release others.
Your Father already forgave you while you were holding bitterness. He's not waiting for you to 'get right'—He's holding you IN rightness already.
