"I need to obey my parents perfectly or God won't bless me"
How it sounds in your head: The Bible says 'honor your father and mother' and I mess that up all the time. I roll my eyes, talk back, forget chores. If I can't obey them, God must be withholding blessings from me.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religion twists the honoring command into fear-based performance, making God's blessing conditional on a child's perfect behavior toward imperfect parents.
She's heard Ephesians 6:1-3 taught as 'obey or else' instead of as relational honor. When she messes up with her parents, she feels distant from God and assumes He's punishing her by withholding good things.
Jacob DECEIVED his father Isaac, lied to him, and stole his brother's blessing through trickery. Yet when Isaac discovered the deception, he said 'I have blessed him and he SHALL BE BLESSED.' The blessing wasn't reversed by disobedience.
I REFUSE the lie that God withholds blessing when I disobey my parents. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus wiped out ALL requirements against me, nailing them to the cross. My failures in honoring my parents are covered by the blood. I learn to honor because I'm loved, not to GET loved. IT IS WRITTEN the BARAK blessing protected Jacob even when he DECEIVED his father, so my imperfect obedience doesn't disqualify me. There is no condemnation in Christ for the times I roll my eyes or talk back. I am the righteousness of God, and I'm growing in honor from a place of being blessed, not to earn blessing. The Father runs toward me even when I've been difficult with my parents.
The Father doesn't put His blessing on hold when you mess up with your parents. He's already given you EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ, and your obedience is the FRUIT of being blessed, not the root.
