"I have to get my anger under control before God accepts me"
How it sounds in your head: I snap at my family, punch walls, rage at games. Good Christians have self-control. I feel like a hypocrite saying I follow Jesus when I can't even control my temper. He can't accept me like this.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Source: Religion teaching that acceptance is conditional on behavior modification instead of BLOOD
Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5, and you don't have it. Adults look disappointed when you lose it. If fruit proves salvation, your anger must prove you're not really saved.
Moses murdered an Egyptian in rage, then 40 years later struck the rock in anger instead of speaking to it, costing him the Promised Land. Yet God called him 'friend,' spoke to him face to face, and used him to deliver Israel. Anger didn't disqualify God's presence.
I REFUSE the lie that God rejects me until I control my anger. IT IS WRITTEN that while I was STILL a sinner, Christ died for me—which means He loved me in my WORST moment, not after I cleaned it up. My acceptance isn't based on my self-control; it's based on HIS BLOOD. I am not a project to be fixed before I'm loved—I am a SON being TRANSFORMED because I'm already loved. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for me in Christ. My anger doesn't change my POSITION; I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I am a BRANCH connected to the VINE—self-control is FRUIT that comes from connection, not effort. The Father accepts me RIGHT NOW.
The Father isn't waiting for you to stop punching walls before He embraces you—He's embracing you IN your anger like He did Moses, calling you 'friend' while teaching you a better way. His love isn't conditional; His transformation is GUARANTEED because you're His son.
